Welcome to the Day Job Knockout Podcast, Round 1. I’m your host Chris Deals.I’m so excited to finally launch this podcast. I have been planning to do podcast for about two years now, and have had many start and stops. In the Day Job Knockout Podcast I will chronicle my journey to building and online business that will eventual replace my day job, hence the name, Day Job Knockout. There two main reasons why I’m doing this podcast:

First, as a way to hold myself accountable to the goals I have set for supplementing my income online, and building a business

Second, so I can share with you the listeners my success and failures so you can learn from them.
I know they are many people like me out there that are looking for a way to make some extra money online, and build a business that one day will allow them to quit their day jobs.

We are seeking real opportunities, not some magic bullet that will make us rich over night without doing any work….yes I said it work. I know that word is the dreaded four letter word online. Many gurus like to pitch their products that offer instant results without your having to do any work…but as my mom always said, good things come to those who work hard, so I’m willing to put in the hard work that is required to build a real online business that one day will replace my day job.

So, you may be wondering who is Chris Deals?

I’m a father, life long entrepreneur, and I enjoy sharing my experiences especially about how I make money online .

I was originally born in Guyana, which is in South American. Here is some trivia for you: Guyana is the only English speaking country in South America.

I came to the United States in 1986, and complete both high school and college here.

I have an 18 year old son who is about to graduate from High School this summer, and that I another reason I’m looking to supplement my income online. I would like to be able to give him the opportunity to have a debt free college education. So he can start his life without the heavy burden of student loans.

I also have a beautiful, 12 year old daughter who is currently in middle school.

I currently live in outside of Richmond Virginia. I moved from Brooklyn New York a few years ago.

Life long entrepreneur

As I mention before I’m a life long entrepreneur. I have been always looking for ways to be self employed since my early team years. I have several business, with varied level so success.

1. Delivery Service
2. Shovel Snow
3. Website Design
4. Medical Billing Business
5. eBay Business
6. Several online projects – Niche Sites, Affiliate Sites, Article Marketing Forum Marketing, Forum Owner, Incentivized Site Owner

Furby Story

Narrowing My Focus

I have spent soon to be 5 years trying to build an online business, and as I mention before I have tried several different things in the Internet Marketing.

I have had small successes, but not the kind of success that I believe is possible.

I believe that reason for that is the lack of focus. Jumping form one project to the next, and not completing projects I have started. I notorious for having several unfinished project on my laptop.

I’m sure I’m not the only one, but over the years I have bought thousand of dollars worth of Make Money Products with the best of intentions, and did absolutely nothing with them.

I don’t believe that I was looking for the silver bullet, or the easy way to make money online. I think I was trying to gather as much information as possible so I will be perfect when I launch my first project. What a waste of time and money that was. I have since figured out that I will never have the perfect product or perfect blog, sales page etc. I just need to take action and get stuff out there, and tweak them as I go.

I read a great article by Yaro Starak, called Why People Struggle To Get What They Want
http://www.entrepreneurs-journey.com/3657/why-people-struggle-to-get-what-they-want/

In this article he touch on some topics that really hit home with me:
He wrote:
1. “success is the result of trial and error”

Yep, your have to be able to over come failure in order to succeed. Many of us don’t get started because we are afraid to fail. And I will be the first to raise my hand on this.

2. “it’s about figuring out specifically what you want, what tasks take you there, what order they should be done in, and what tools and knowledge you need to complete the tasks”

Good ole goal setting and most importantly follow though. Sticking with it for the long term,
while making adjustments along the way.

For me the hard part was always sticking with it for the long term….and Yaro went on to explains why that happens.

3. “Sadly most people know what to do, they just don’t do it. The reason is a lack of belief and confidence”

Yes, that was me. I’m confident that I know what it takes for me to achieve my goals of supplementing my income online while building a business online, but I lack the confidence, I was afraid, I wanted to be perfect.

Change is here

As I said before I’m confident that I have the know how, and drive to succeed online so at the beginning of 2012 I made a serious commitment to changing my mindset and staying focus on my the my goals.

So here are my updated and even more focused goals for the remaining of 2012:

Earn $1000 per month online

There two ways I plan on achieving this:

Create and release at least one product each month.
I enjoy coming up with product ideas, and having your own product is one of the fastest way to build your online business, plus it can general recurring income month after month.

I am a huge fan of PLR (Private Label Rights) content, and I use it to jump start my product creation process. Its basically a short cut to creating a quality product.

Some of you may be wondering what is PLR? Is content that you can buy to reuse and even claim as your own. It comes in several different formats, articles, product reviews, complete ebooks, videos and even audio. PLR makes it easy to grow you online business when used correctly. That is another topic for a future episode.

Build an Authority Niche Site
I currently have a nice site that I raking #3 in Google, I want to turn that into an authority site but adding more content and better monetizing it.

Work 15-20 hours per week on my online business
This will be a challenge since I’m currently working 45-55 hours each week at my day job, and about 10 hours a week at my part time job, plus I have the usual family commitments.

This can be achieve with some planning. I will quit my par-time job as soon as my online income matches what I receive from my part-time job.

Record one podcast each week
I enjoy sharing what I am learning and doing, it hope this this podcast will help my build some relationship with you the listeners and others in the online community.

Post and income and expense statement each month
This will help keep my on task when it comes to managing my business income and expenses, and serves as an additional motivator.

Those are my goals for 2012, and I will be updating you on my progress.

So, lets make this a two way conversation, leave on comment on my blog DayJobKnockout.com/001 letting me know what your goals are for 2012, and how you are doing so far.

    Congratulations on your first podcast!

I think a majority of online marketers all struggle with focus. It’s also been my number one obstacle of moving forward.

One of the reasons for lack of focus and jumping from project to project is that we often look for an “easy” to make that money online. When we finally settle down and realize there is no easy way…and that it takes some good old W-o-r-k…then we decide we better get serious and focus on something.

Sadly, many people quit waaay too soon. You have to stick in there…it doesn’t happen over night.

I love writing my goals down on my desktop calendar pad so that I can keep those goals right in front of me and cross them off as I complete them. People need to find out what it takes to stay focused and do it.

Rhonda, you are so correct, being able to focus and willing to work hard are two of the keys for success with Internt Marketing.

I like your ideas of putting your goals on a desktop calendar. I just thought about adding my goals to my Google calendar
with alerts, so that is one of the first notifications I get each morning.

Thanks for checking out my podcast.
